Square - Company Profile
Square was a company in trouble back in the days. In the late 1980s, they were a company that would create flop after flop after flop. It was then that they decided to make one last game before filing for bankruptcy: an RPG by the name of Final Fantasy.
|Unlike their other games, however, Final Fantasy became an instant hit, and it pulled Square out of the red and into the spotlight. The company would then become devoted mainly to the roleplaying genre. Today, Final Fantasy is the most popular RPG series to date, and many other great games have come out of this company, like Seiken Densetsu (Secret/Legend/Sword of Mana), Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, the Front Mission games, and many more.
|Square's legacy ended in 2003/2004, when they merged with another RPG juggernaut, Enix, to create Square Enix. Through them, the Final Fantasy series continues to strive, but they continue to make countless other games, too.
