Sony Computer Entertainment - Company Profile
Sony is more known as an electronics giant than a video game company, but their two consoles, the Playstation and Playstation 2, have become quite popular with the older crowd. The Playstation made its debut in North America around 1995, and introduced the world to 32-64 bit graphics, outdoing the Panasonic 3D0 and the Sega Saturn, and henceforth starting a new era in gaming, ending a long drought in the video gaming community for a productive console.
The PlayStation was also unique in the way that it was the first to provide two new features: CD-playing capabilities, and the memory card. Since the PSX (and all other consoles with games on CD) had no way to burn save files onto it, another media was needed. This was when the memory card came in. This also allowed people to take their save files with them without having to bring their game, and not worry about having to lose it when they return a game that they rented.
The Playstation 2 was also unique, being the first console to have DVD playing capabilities.
