Sega - Company Profile
Sega started around the same time of Nintendo, and immediately became a rival to them. Their first system was an Atari-like system called the Master System. Eventually, they went on to produce the Mega Drive, (known as the Genesis in North America) where they unveiled their answer to Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog. (Who would later gain friends such as Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echinda, and Amy Rose.) For its time the Mega Drive was way more advanced than the NES, and came very close to the SNES, making it the system to beat for quite a long time. However, Sega's hold on the console business would slip, after two failed consoles, the Sega CD and the Sega Saturn, including the 32X add-on for the Mega Drive. Although they did bounce back with the 64-bit Sega Dreamcast, it wasn't enough in their light, and dropped console production altogether. They started by solely making games for Nintendo systems, but eventually went on to create games for the Playstation 2 and XBOX also, and released Sonic Advance on the N-Gage under the name "Sonic N." They would also partner up to create games for existing lines, such as Nintendo/Sega's F-Zero GX.
