The Virtual Boy is a statement for that portion of Nintendo's time, that they weren't afraid to try new things. Released in 1995, it was unique in its own way. Neither a handheld nor a console that hooked up to your TV, the Virtual Boy was a big red binoculars-like box on a tripod, and players looked into it to see the game action. However, it was only capable of displaying shades of red. It was taken off the market shortly after its launch, due to numerous complaints about headaches.
